Hope Air: Turning Hope into Reality
Hope Air is dedicated to bridging the gap between home and hospital for low-income Canadians facing serious health issues. Accessing vital medical appointments and treatments can be challenging, especially when they are far from home. This is where Hope Air steps in, providing free flights and accommodations to ease the burden of travel costs and logistics.
What Hope Air Does
Hope Air believes that every Canadian should have access to the healthcare they need, regardless of distance or financial capability. They support patients through:
- Free Flights: With the help of airline partners, volunteer pilots, and generous donors, Hope Air offers free flights to patients, ensuring they reach their medical appointments without stress. Approximately 70% of these flights are made possible through direct donations.
- Accommodations and Ground Assistance: Upon arrival, patients receive transportation from the airport to their medical facilities and accommodations that provide a comfortable place to stay, allowing them to focus on their health. Hope Air strives to create a home-away-from-home environment for patients to relax and restore before and after their treatments.
The Impact
Since its inception in 1986, Hope Air has arranged over 162,000 travel accommodations for patients in need. Their efforts save lives by ensuring timely access to critical medical care. Key milestones in their journey include the introduction of the Volunteer Pilot Program in 1999 and the launch of the Give Hope Wings fundraising expedition in 2018, showcasing their ongoing commitment to expanding support for patients at every stage of their healthcare journey.
Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada: Bringing Joy and Smiles
For over 30 years, Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada has been dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill children and their families. By focusing on the family as a whole, Starlight Canada brings joy, laughter, and relief through a variety of programs designed to alleviate the stress of hospitalization and serious illness.
In-Hospital and Outpatient Programs
- In-Hospital Programs: Starlight Canada provides much-needed distractions for children in hospitals. From toys and the latest technology to full-blown parties, they replace fear and loneliness with fun and excitement.
- Out-of-Hospital Programs: Starlight Canada grants wishes through several initiatives, including Day Brightener Wishes, Great Escapes Wishes, Once In A Lifetime Wishes, and Play From Home Packs, ensuring that families always have a reason to smile.
The Starlight Insurance Gala
A significant part of Starlight Canada’s fundraising efforts is the annual Starlight Insurance Gala. For 30 years, this event has brought together the insurance community to support Starlight’s mission. The goal for their 30th anniversary is to raise $300,000 and surpass $6 million in total donations since its inception in 1994. We are proud to share that the Starlight Gala 2024 raised a total of $377,772, as well as 73 donates wises!
